Jackie Buntan wanted to introduce himself to Filipino fight fans.

Now she wants to play a ONE Championship match in front of them.

“I think I put my name there and let people know who I am,” Buntan said after knocking down Thailand’s Wondergirl Fairtex in a straw muay thai fight in the promotion’s centerpiece Fists of Fury in Singapore on Friday night.

Buntan said that after feeling support from the Filipinos, she would love to fight in Manila once the coronavirus pandemic is somehow corrected.

“I literally felt a whole nation cheering me on at home. I really felt that with me and took it to the cage with me, ”she said. “I am delighted to return.”

And based on what she showed against Fairtex, a Thai prodigy who had made remarkable strides in promotion, the 23-year-old Filipina-American would be a pleasure to watch.

Even the big boss of the ONE Championship Chatri Sityodtong, who also happens to be a follower of several martial arts disciplines, was in awe.

“I was very impressed with Jackie… She delivered a very technical performance with exceptional precision, speed and power against one of the best Thai Muay Thai champions in (Wondergirl). Congratulations on a perfect start, Jackie! Sityodtong wrote on Facebook moments after the event.

Buntan hit Fairtex with a hook near the end of the first round and dominated the rest of the way en route to unanimous victory.

“This control hook, I worked on it on both sides as a left-hander [and] orthodox… we expected her to come straight with gunshots, and I just remembered in my head that if she did come, I would have this hook waiting for her. And it worked, ”Buntan said.

“We expected her to come with flaming weapons. In her last two fights, she usually shoots forehands. She seemed a little more patient, shy this time around. But that was not a problem at all.

“Once I got into the cage and we touched some gloves, everything slowed down. I really thought I was in that state of flux and felt right at home, ”added Buntan, who masterfully worked around his size disadvantage in the fight.

“I knew she was extremely taller than me. I am 5 feet 4 inches tall and she is 5 feet 9 inches tall. But [it] wasn’t much of a problem at all. We worked, making sure that if I threw out my hands I would go in with both feet, ”Buntan said. INQ
