MANILA, Philippines – China needed a late push to beat Japan, 90-84, to remain unbeaten in Group B of the Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers in Clark, Pampanga.

Down by seven with just over six minutes to go, China turned 17-4 to turn things around.

China’s size advantage was too much for Japan to overcome with 7-1 / 1-inch center Zhou Qi in the lead.

Qi imposed his will with 18 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks to help his team go 3-0.

A triple from Zhao Yanhao sealed the game for China, 88-81, with 1:06 to go. China topped Japan, 37-22.

Yuki Togashi had 17 points for Japan, which slipped to 2-2.
