MANILA, Philippines – Alex Eala advanced to another quarter-final after beating Spain’s Christina Bucsa 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8) on Thursday in the Grenoble City Trophy of the ITF in France.
The 15-year-old had to pass in the last set as Bucsa forced an 8-8 draw despite a 6-3 streak earlier.
Eala went on to win the next two points to seal his ticket to the quarterfinals of the tournament, his fourth consecutive appearance since starting his professional career this year.
Her victory was her second consecutive treble after holding Romania’s Laura-Ioana Paar in the first round of the Grenoble tournament 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
The 2021 campaign has been successful for Eala who won her first professional tournament, the first stop of the ITF Rafa Nadal Academy World Tennis Tour. She has never lost a game before the quarterfinals of the competitions in which she has participated.
