Members on both sides of the House made impassioned speeches in the House of Commons today during a debate on proposed reforms to the criminal justice system to better cope with public disasters.
The debate centered on the Hillsborough disaster. Maria Eagle, calling for the creation of an independent public defender, closed her opening speech by declaring: so wrong in this case never to happen to other families again. ”
Former Prime Minister Theresa May echoed his words, saying: “They have been through hell since that fateful day, and they don’t want to see other people go through the same experience. We owe it to them. ”
