MANILA, Philippines — Junna Tsukii’s trip to the Tokyo Games ended after losing to Bulgaria Ivet Goranova, 2-1, in the round of 16 of the World Karate Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Paris on Friday.

It was Tsukii’s only fight in the Kumite Female -55kg division in qualifying for the Olympics next month.

It was a disappointing first day for the Philippines after Jayson Macaalay retired from the race in the -67kg Kumite Male division when he lost to Azerbaijani Firdovsi Farzaliyev, 1-0, in the round of 16.
